Renee Hokom,

Certified Nurse Midwife,

Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber

Hi! I’m Renee Hokom, a Certified Nurse Midwife and Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber. I am thrilled to be joining the team of midwives at Authentic Birth Center.

My passion for women’s health and birth work began after college, when I was working on farms in Europe. During this time, I was surrounded by women who believed in the innate strength of their bodies and practiced a natural, holistic approach to health. These women shared their birth stories with me, and I became fascinated by the transformative power of pregnancy and birth. I began volunteering as a doula in 2010 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, WA. In 2012 I went on to get my Masters of Nursing degree from Seattle University. I passed my midwifery boards in 2014 and moved to Milwaukee soon afterwards to help start a prenatal program at a Federally Qualified Health Center in an underserved part of the city. This work has been both challenging and rewarding for the past 3 years. However, I was craving a transition from hospital-based practice to out-of-hospital midwifery. In November 2017 I connected with LaNette, Ali, and Katy and started a 6-month apprenticeship, which led to an opportunity to stay on and join the team here at Authentic Birth Center!

As a midwife, my goal is to support women in their healthcare journey, to develop genuine patient-provider relationships, and to honor the individual needs of each client. I look forward to working with you throughout your pregnancy, during the postpartum period, and for any other women’s health needs.
