Certified Nurse Midwife
Hi, I am Ali Phipps, a Certified Nurse Midwife and APNP (Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber) practicing at Authentic Birth Center in Wauwatosa, WI. I have had the privilege of attending more than 1,000 births! For the past 18 years, my full scope of practice has included prenatal, labor and birth, postpartum, and gynecology throughout a woman's lifespan, with births attended 10 years at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare and 1 year at Aurora Sinai and other area hospitals and practices and out-of-hospital births since 2011. I joined Authentic, a free standing birth center, in September, 2013.
Board certifications: Nationally board certified as a Nurse Midwife through the American Midwifery Certification Board, a subsidiary of the American College of Nurse Midwives.
Educational Background • Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Jacksonville University | Jacksonville, Florida• Certificate in Nurse Midwifery, Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing | Hyden, Kentucky• Master of Science in Nursing, Case Western Reserve University | Cleveland, Ohio.
I enjoy empowering families and delivering highly individualized and educationally intensive client care that is family centered and includes the appropriate use of technology and complementary therapies. Some of these therapies include, but are not limited to, herbs, aroma therapy, self-hypnosis/deep relaxation, sterile water papules, hydrotherapy, and water birth. If complications arise, we use a collaborative practice model that facilitates referral and transfer as indicated with physicians.
We are very pleased to be offering Centering Pregnancy®, a unique and innovative, highly enjoyable mode of prenatal care. The Birth care package includes not only care for mom, it also includes the initial newborn exam, newborn screenings, assistance with breast feeding, as needed, and screening for postpartum depression. Care continues after birth and the six week check with health promotion and well woman OB/Gynecological care and is an important part of my practice.
My hobbies include swimming, crocheting, writing, and playing guitar. I enjoyed hiking with my husband and youngest child even prior to his birth. (We were hiking the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone with our five children when I was 32 weeks pregnant.) Other interests include reading, supporting whenever possible Bread of Healing – a free clinic for adults with no health insurance, facilitating women’s support groups, and spending time with my children, ten grandchildren, and extended family.
